Quote video with a background image

Mountains, sea, night sky, city lights, quiet textures: pick a photo from the built-in library or use your own, and the text is kept readable for you.

To put a quote on a background image, type the quote above, press Make my video, open Background and press Browse photos, or Upload a photo or video to use your own. Search by word (sea, mist, marble, stars) or browse a category, and click a photo to use it.

quote.video measures how bright and how busy the picture is behind your text and picks an overlay to keep the words readable: an even darkening, a gradient towards the text, or a soft pool of shade just behind it. Auto measures again after you change the crop, and you can always fine-tune Darken and Blur yourself.

How to add a background image to a quote video

  1. Choose the picture

In Background, press Browse photos and pick one, or Upload a photo or video from your device.

  2. Frame it

Tap the part of the photo that matters most under Focus point, and use Zoom to crop in.

  3. Add movement

Leave Slow camera move on and choose Push in, Pull out or a pan.

  4. Check the text and export

Pick Even, Gradient or Behind text, or press Auto, then Export.

The photo library

The built-in library holds a few hundred high-quality photos from Unsplash, chosen to sit well behind words: landscapes, sea and sky, night, city lights, architecture, flowers, rain, snow, autumn, abstract blur and textures such as paper, marble and concrete. They are free to use, including commercially, under the Unsplash License.

Each photo is credited to its photographer under the thumbnail and in Background, with a link to the photo’s page. Turn on Show the credit on the video to add a small credit line too; it isn’t required, but photographers appreciate it.

Your own pictures stay on your device

A photo or video you upload is opened by your browser and stored only in this browser’s own storage, so your projects reopen with it. Nothing is sent to a server, and the finished video is made on your device.

Slow camera moves

A still photo comes alive with a gentle Ken Burns move across the scene: Push in, Pull out, Pan left, Pan right, Drift up or Drift down. The move is smoothed at both ends and keeps your focus point in frame, and with several scenes each can have its own photo and its own move.

Background image questions

Can I use the library photos commercially?

Yes. They are under the Unsplash License, which allows commercial use without asking permission. Credit is appreciated, not required, and you can’t sell the photos on their own.

Will the text be readable on a bright photo?

Yes. Auto measures the picture behind the text and darkens it just enough for strong contrast, deeper where the text sits.

Can I use a video instead of a photo?

Yes. Upload a video and it plays silently behind the text, looping if it is shorter than the scene.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Your own pictures stay on your device.
