Privacy at quote.video
The short version
Everything you put into the maker (the quote, the author, any photo, video or music) stays on your device. Your browser draws the video and writes the file; quote.video never receives it. What does reach a server is the ordinary traffic of loading our pages, and usage statistics that you can switch off.
Your words, pictures and sound
When you type a quote, the text is laid out and painted on a canvas by code running in your browser. When you add a photo or video background, your browser decodes it locally; when you add music, it is decoded and mixed with the Web Audio API on your device. Exports are encoded by your browser (WebCodecs, or its built-in recorder where WebCodecs isn’t available) and saved or shared straight from your device. None of this content, its file names or its metadata is uploaded to quote.video or passed to anyone else.
What your browser keeps for you
- Your designs. Each design (the quote, author, template and settings) is saved automatically in this site’s IndexedDB storage, with a small preview picture, so a reload doesn’t lose your work. They are listed under Recent designs until you delete them there.
- Backgrounds and music you add. A copy of the photo, video or audio file is kept in the same storage so the design reopens complete. Deleting the design, or removing the file from it, deletes the copy.
- Small preferences in local storage: light or dark mode (
vt-theme) and your analytics choice (vt-consent).
Nothing here expires on its own. To remove everything at once, clear this site’s data in your browser’s settings.
No outside downloads
The maker’s code, its fonts and the quote library are all served by quote.video. It does not fetch fonts from Google Fonts, converters from a CDN or models from anywhere else, so using the maker sends no request to a third party beyond the analytics described below.
Hosting
Cloudflare delivers our pages. To do that and to block abusive traffic, Cloudflare’s servers process routine request details such as your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for. We rely on this only to keep the site available and secure (UK GDPR and GDPR Article 6(1)(f), legitimate interests). Cloudflare describes its handling of these logs in its privacy policy.
Visit statistics
Cloudflare Web Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics count visits, referring sites, rough location and device type. They set no cookies and show us totals only.
Google Analytics 4 tells us which parts of the maker get used, so we know what to improve. It records the pages you view and actions such as choosing a template category, a size or an animation, adding a background or music, and exporting or downloading, with coarse details like the export type, the number of sizes and the video length in whole seconds. These are linked by a random identifier in a first-party cookie. Google Analytics never receives your quote or author, your pictures, video or sound, or any file name. It is not used for advertising: ad features and Google signals are off. Google processes the data under its privacy policy (see also how Google uses data from sites that use its services); it may be handled in the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and we keep it for 14 months.
Why this is lawful: understanding how the maker is used, so it can be improved, is a legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f). In the UK, the analytics cookie relies on the statistical-purposes exception in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. Visitors in the European Economic Area and Switzerland start with analytics cookies switched off, so Google only receives cookieless signals without an identifier from them.
Cookies and how to turn them off
quote.video sets no advertising cookies. The only cookies are Google Analytics’ _ga and
_ga_*, which last up to two years. On your first visit a short notice explains them. You can object
at any time: choose Cookie settings at the foot of any page and then
Turn off analytics. This browser remembers the choice and no further analytics cookies are set.
A Global Privacy Control signal from your browser is treated as the same objection. We do not sell personal data.
Who runs quote.video
quote.video is an independent, self-funded project. There are no accounts, and since your designs never reach us, we hold no record of what you made.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data, restrict or object to its use, or take it elsewhere, and you can complain to a supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office). Because your designs and files live only in your browser, clearing this site’s data removes them entirely. Cookie settings stops analytics; Google’s own tools cover anything Google already holds.
Changes
If quote.video starts handling data differently, this page is updated in the same release and the date at the top changes.
